High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
In every classroom, learning is purposeful, engaging, and responsive to student needs. Teachers use clear, explicit teaching and design tasks that support and extend every learner. Students set personal learning goals and work in flexible groups throughout the day. Open-ended tasks and critical thinking projects build independence and deeper understanding. Structured collaboration strengthens communication and teamwork. Ongoing assessment guides teaching and supports steady growth for every student.
Across our school
Across the school, we provide targeted opportunities that support strong growth and achievement for every student. Flexible grouping across stages allows students to learn at the right level. Extension and enrichment programs in Art, Music, and Writing develop talent and creativity. Leadership opportunities build confidence and responsibility. Additional sport programs, including hockey, gymnastics, tennis, and basketball, support health, teamwork, and skill development. Our Little Lizard Kindergarten Transition gives students a confident start to school, while our Year 7 Orientation program supports a smooth and successful move to high school.
Across NSW
At the state level, our students access a wide range of competitive and enrichment opportunities. Students enter major art competitions such as the Bulahdelah Show and Wild at Art. Teams take part in the NSW Game Changer Challenge. Students compete in PSSA Knockouts and gala days across multiple sports. High-achieving spellers represent our school in the Premier’s Spelling Bee. Students also participate in the Premier’s Sporting and Premier’s Reading Challenges, building commitment, discipline, and pride in achievement.
